Renovating the fabric of old, historically valuable buildings to today‘s standards of energy efficiency is a controversial issue in European towns and cities. The goal is to find intelligent ways of reconciling the conflicting aims of climate protection and architectural culture. In Austria quite a number of projects have been launched in recent years, in order to encourage using innovative technologies and approaches so as to renovate valuable historic buildings sustainably.
